breath-mind-sittingSo you are at a point in your life where things aren’t going as planned, you are in a rut or you are at an all time low because of depression, addictions, family problems or lack of awareness and spirituality in your life. Where do you begin to change things? How long does it take? Well it depends on how bad you want to transform your life.

The first place to start is within. Are you living a mindful life? Or are you just living reactively to everything around you? Are you easily affected by others’ moods and behavior? Are you generally unhappy? Are you taking good care of your mind, body and spirit?  Are you over worked and over stressed?  Do you rely on outside sources for pleasure, like shopping, alcohol, food or drugs?

Bringing awareness into your life is the first huge step. Once you have done this, you will see the fog lift and things will be much clearer.

mind•ful•ness
noun
The quality or state of being conscious or aware of something.

a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.

Use mindfulness to bring Transformation into your life.  And watch the fog just lift away till your mind and spirit feel clean and clear.

There are many ways to practice mindfulness. You can start simple by actually feeling the sensations around you. When you wash your hands…feel the silkiness of the soap, the rush of the warm water, the smell of the soap, feel how it makes your skin feel. Start paying attention to the every day things. Pay attention to the carpet under your bare feet when you walk around your home, slide your hand across the granite in your kitchen, start really feeling the world around you. This is great practice for being conscious and in the moment.

Your next step is to spend time meditating every day. Being quiet inside, calm, relaxed and at peace. Pay attention to your breathing. Be aware of thoughts that enter your head, and then let them go, let them drift away from you.

As you advance you should start to do activities that you enjoy and that require your full attention. How do artists create masterpieces? They love what they do and they give their total attention to it. Take up a hobby or a sport. When you are in the ocean surfing, you are one with the water, feeling the waves coming, feeling the coolness of the water, feeling the sun on your skin. It is your time, time to enjoy your present moment.

Pay attention to people when they are speaking to you. Instead of worrying about work, the car, bills, etc., calm the chatter in your head and give your full attention to those around you. There is no need to allow all that inner chatter to take you away from the present moment. For most, this happens all day long, every day. People become like zombies, going through their day, dead to the world, just focused on their inner thoughts, their ego.

After practicing mindfulness you will pull out of the zombie affliction. You will start to enjoy life more. You will see things clearer. This is the beginning of a new and fulfilled life.
